Description

Apple Dumplings are a quick, cozy dessert featuring tart apples wrapped in crescent rolls, baked in a sweet butter-soda sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

2 large Granny Smith apples

2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent rolls

1 cup unsalted butter

2 Tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)

1½ cups granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 cup Mountain Dew (or other lemon-lime soda)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 °F (≈ 175 °C). Butter a 13″×9″ baking dish using the 2 Tbsp butter. Set aside.

  • Peel, core and cut each Granny Smith apple into 8 slices (so you’ll have 16 total apple pieces).

  • Unroll the crescent roll dough, separate into triangles. Take one apple slice and wrap it in one triangle of dough, sealing the edges around the apple slice. Place each wrapped apple‐slice in the prepared baking dish.

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup of the butter and add the granulated sugar. Stir very gently until the butter is melted and sugar is incorporated, then remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  • Pour the butter‑sugar‑vanilla mixture evenly over the wrapped apples. Then carefully pour the 1 cup of Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan (not directly over the dumplings) so you don’t saturate the dough and lose the crispness.

  • Sprinkle the cinnamon evenly over the top.

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40‑45 minutes, or until the tops of the wrapped apples are golden brown and the dough is cooked through.

  • Remove from the oven and allow to rest for a few minutes. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or some whipped cream, and spoon some of the syrup from the pan over the top.

Notes

Use real Mountain Dew or similar soda — no diet!

Do not pour soda over the dumplings directly.

Granny Smith apples work best, but others like Honeycrisp or Pink Lady can also be used.

For best texture, bake fresh and serve warm.
